What is hypnobirthing ?
Hypnobirthing is a positive approach to childbirth that aims to inform and empower the birthing mother and partner. Too many women are experiencing birth trauma, I believe every woman should be entitled a beautiful calm and positive birth experience, no matter what turn your birth might take. The Positive Birth program from Hypnobirthing Australia aims to provide the knowledge, and give you tools to use through pregnancy, during labour and after; we build a strong support system and help you feel prepared for what ever path your birth takes. Birthing companions feel they have an important role and a higher level of connection with the birth experience after attending this course. We help release fears and concerns surrounding your birth and give you the confidence to be excited about your birthing day. We use ancient philosophies combined with modern medical theory, while utilising the vast knowledge of birthing experts to give you evidence based, natural and real-world birth education. How does hypnobirthing differ to other antenatal classes?
Hypnobirthing Australia's course is a full antenatal course and currently Australia’s leading private birth education class. Other childbirth course focus on how to ‘cope and manage pain’, hypnobirthing is based on the premise that a healthy woman, with an uncomplicated healthy pregnancy and healthy baby, should be able to birth in a more comfortable manner and without unnecessary interventions. Hypnobirthing differs to other childbirth courses in that we help release fears and concentrate on the body’s natural abilities to release hormones that will help us through birth. Hypnobirthing is in no way anti pain relief, we focus on making sure you’re informed about your rights and teach you to ask the right questions so you can make empowered decisions during your labour to ensure it is a positive memorable experience. Through the hypnobirthing Australia program, we will go through the birth process, give you easy to learn tools and technique to utilise during your birth. We empower your birth partner to have an active role during labour helping you relax and stay positive (you have a magical job already, let them do the rest). Hypnobirthing focuses on empowering mothers to trust their bodies and inform them during this beautiful stage rather than focus on what is often non evidence based medical practices and hospital policies. What can i expect from the classes, how will they run?
Depending on what course you would like to book in for, whether it be a group class, private or online class you will still receive 12 hours of course content. During the group session these will run over two full days (usually a week apart). In each session we will cover a huge range of information to make sure you leave feeling prepared and confident to meet your baby. During the class there will be practical exercises and group participation to help make learning a bit more fun. The information given can be an over load but we break it up into small sessions with regular breaks (although sometimes I need to be reminded because my passion can take over and forget that people need to have a stretch, don’t worry I’ve never missed a lunch break though!) These sessions will run in either my Manly Location or Thornlands depending on your available and course dates. See HERE to find out more. Private classes will run in the comfort of your own home or a location of your choosing. They will generally run over 4 three hour sessions depending on both our availability. These class are a little more interactive in a one on one setting as we will be more focus on your own birth. Regular breaks and stretch are guided by the birthing mother and birth partner. See more information here Online course will run similar to private sessions as you will be in the comfort of your own home over 4 three hour sessions. See more here For each course you will just need yourself and your birthing partner (if they are available), water and a pillow for comfort. Snacks and other equipment during the class will be provided. An email will be sent out a head of time giving more specific information. Why is it called hypnobirthing?
The hypno part refers to the hypnotheraphy part of the course. We will teach you how to use self hypnosis to relax and release fears however this only makes up a small portion of the course. The positive birth course that we teach incorporates other tools such as soft touch, acupressure, visualisation and support to help you during your birth. What are the benefits?
Benefits of hypnobirthing include;
can i do hypnobirthing and have an epidural
Of course, Hypnobirthing is for all births no matter what path it may take. Through the course we help you make informed and empowering choices this includes pain relief. We teach you how to release natural hormones and endorphins to reduce perceived pain as well as a tool kit of techniques to get you through birth, this does not mean that if you require pain relief you cannot use what you have learnt in your class. We want you to leave with your baby in your arms feeling empowered and positive about your birthing experience. We want it to be one you remember fondly each and every year. Yes, with the growing popularity of hypnobirthing classes midwives, obstetrician, hospitals, health and childbirth professionals welcome hypnobirthing parents. Hypnobirthing Australia conducts caregiver training for healthcare professionals who want to learn better ways to support couples during this intimate and vulnerable time. This course is growing in popularity which shows the important healthcare providers view and support this child birth education. My partner is not onboard, how can I convince him to come with me? or if i don't have a partner
Your birthing partner during your labour can be your partner, a friend, sister, your mum, or close family member. The role of a birth partner is to help and support you during your birth, it is essential you trust them to support and advocate for your preferences during your labour. They will help you stay relaxed by using tools they will learn in the class. As most birth mothers have done previous research (from as soon as we find out we're pregnant we start the search for guidance, we can’t help it) most birth partners often say they get more out of the class as it can sometimes be there first source of information. Birth partners leave the course feeling confident and ready to support the birthing mother, saying they connected more with the birthing process as they had an important role and knew exactly how to help and when to do so. If your partner works away and won’t be available for the class please let me know and we can arrange a catch up session to get them up to speed with their role during labour. You will still receive huge benefit for your birthing experience and gain knowledge and insight into the birthing process if you birth partner cannot make it. Using self-hypnosis and relaxation you can still have a beautiful empowered birth solo, we have many beautiful birthing mothers that prefer not to be touched during birth and have empowering labours... you can too. is Hypnobirthing evidence based?

(Vaginal birth after Caesarean)

The course has shown huge benefit for woman wanting a VBAC for their next birth. If this referred to you please get in contact to arrange a free 20 min chat to discuss your pregnancy and your wishes for this birth. When is the best time to do the course?
It is recommended to do the course between 20-32 weeks to enable you have enough time to prepare and practice. However if you are past this point please do get in contact to find out your options as there is always time to learn the tools and gain the benefits of hypnobirthing. I would recommended getting in contact as soon as possible to make sure you can secure your spot in your required dates. Will I remember my birth and what does being hypnotised feel like?
Of course you will remember your birth. Through this course we want you to remember it as a positive experience and one that you remember as being empowering and happy. Hypnosis is always self-hypnosis. It is not what you see on stage shows that are meant for entertainment and amusement. Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation that enables you to remain calm and relaxed during your birth and combined with the other tools we teach, will allow your body to do what it needs to do to birth your baby. Often the introduction of fear and the release of adrenaline has a negative effect on the birthing process and often lengthens labour and can cause the need for interventions. If you've cried in a movie or been driving and at the end can't remember the exact route you took then chances are you've been in a state of hypnosis. It is not about making you cluck like a chicken or dance around, its used to release fears and enter a state of relaxation, which can aid in time distortion (makes birth feel much shorter) How do i know hypnobirthing is for me?
Hypnobirthing is for everyone and if you aren't sure then please feel free to get in contact with me to arrange a free 20 min call to chat about hypnobirthing further and how I might be able to help you
